Ghana is noted very well for her relative peaceful decision making or peaceful infant democratic government. Again, her hospitality has gained her eminence and recognition, and the needed reverence not only in the African Continent but the world at large.
For about two decades now that Ghana has been practicing active democracy, in the light of this, the Land has never witnessed any form of extreme violence in pre-election, during, or post election even if we had to go to the poll many times to find our new President. I am proud to make reference to the name given us as "Israel of Africa". Recently, a prophet even declared Ghana to be the super power nation (?). Whether or not, from the Biblical perspective, Proverbs says:
The Lord's curse is on the
house of the wicked but
HE BLESS THE HOME OF
THE RIGHTEOUS.
He mocks the proud
but GIVES GRACE
TO THE HUMBLE
It is therefore undoubted that, GRACE, our humility, co-existence among ourselves, hospitality, peace among others which have brought us this far and for that matter, we ought to maintain the GHANA we have now.
Election began the very day God created the earth and things in it by 'electing' man among other creatures to have dominion over everything on this earth (Gen. 1:26). Have you ever thought He could have asked any other creature to have authority on us?
Election (choice) has continued from the Old Testament era to the New. After Christ had ascended into heaven and there was a vacuum due to the fell of Judas Iscariot by transgression, the Apostles appointed Joseph called Barsabas who was surnamed Justus, and Mathias to select one of the Two to take up the position of Judas Iscariot.
Acts 1:26 says “And they gave forth their LOTS; and the LOT fell upon Mathias; and he was numbered with the eleven Apostles”.
Very soon, we would be given another the nod to select among the flag bearers of the various political parties, the one whom God, Allah, Onyankopon, has chosen to lead us to the promise land.
We were all aware of the inflammatory speeches, rumours of multiple voting, attempts at rigging, intimidations by “hired men” and degrees of injuries that characterised the previous general elections.
Nevertheless, those who profess they were Christians or Muslims got themselves indulged in those acts. They were the same people who sent prayers and petitions to Heaven prior to the elections, sang peace songs and many more. If there had been “war”, na who cause am? We or God?
Is it not by God’s unmerited favour (Grace) which has brought us this far? Ebenezer! Hitherto, the Lord has brought us. However, we have forgotten it! Yen were afi!! When we forget the Grace, what lies ahead? My mentor, Dr. Samuel Koranteng Pipim said:
Those who forget the lessons of
history are bound to make mistakes.
We are doomed to failure and
destruction when we forget.
Any nation that forgets, any
church that forgets, any community
that forgets, any individual
that forgets is doomed to failure and
destruction! We are doomed
to repeat the mistakes of
the past when we forget.
The very far we have come is by God’s GRACE! When you hear of what is happening in other countries, what is happening in the lives of God’s people who are even more committed than us, my friends you would be shocked. Let me remind you of what happened in R’wanda in 1994. In just an hundred (100) days, three (3) months, One Million (1,000, 000) people were killed.
They were literally massacred just because they belonged to an ethnic group. They were killed as a result of someone’s mistake, someone’s utterance (Reference to Tutsis & Hutus). Even the so called men of God took part in that catastrophic calamity. You see, we hear of wars, murders, killings, and so on but for that number of people to be killed in that time frame was abnormity.
Ok! May be that place is far! What about Cote D’voire, our neighbouring country? What happened that resulted in the civil war? When you have a visual inclination of the event, you would be shocked! Is it not the same “politics and polytricks” that we are practicing here in Ghana, Nigeria and other parts of the world?
I urge all Ghanaians especially; Political Leaders, journalists, communication reps of various parties, and spin doctors to utter words of hope, encouragement and blessing than letting out words of violence. Do we want to forget the Lessons History offers us? Let’s remember the Grace of God on the Nation for when we forget, its consequence is incalculable.
